Flower Essences 101: What They Are and How They Actually Work 🌸

If you’ve ever heard someone say they were “taking flower drops for emotional support” and immediately pictured them sipping lavender tea under a full moon… I get it. It sounds a little ✨out there✨ at first.

But flower essences aren’t just fairy potions or something you buy in a health food aisle because you liked the label (although the labels are usually gorgeous). They’re actually a gentle, powerful form of vibrational medicine — used to help support your emotional and energetic wellbeing.

And no, they’re not essential oils. You won’t be dabbing them behind your ears or making your house smell like a botanical garden. In fact… they don’t really smell like anything.

So what are they? How do they work? And why the heck are they showing up in your kinesiology session?

Let’s break it down — no crystal ball required. 💁‍♀️

So… What Are Flower Essences?

Flower essences are a form of vibrational medicine made by infusing the energetic imprint of a flower into water — usually using sunlight. That’s it. Sounds simple, and it is. But also… kind of magical.

They’re not essential oils (no scent), and they’re not herbal remedies (no plant matter). What you’re working with is the energy or resonance of the flower — the invisible but powerful frequency that flower carries.

Each flower has its own vibe — kind of like crystals! Some support clarity, some bring courage, some soften grief, and some are like “hey… stop overthinking and go live your life already.” (We love those ones.)

Once the flower’s energetic signature is infused into water, it’s preserved with brandy or glycerin so it stays shelf-stable. That water becomes the base for flower essence drops — either used alone or blended into formulas that support certain emotional themes.

It’s subtle. It’s safe. And it’s been around for a long time (thank you, Dr. Bach and your 1930s flower-power 🌼).

How Do They Actually Work? (Without Needing to Believe in Fairies)

Okay, so we’ve got flower energy in water. Cute. But what’s it doing?

Here’s the science-meets-spirit version: flower essences work by interacting with your energetic and emotional body. The part of you that feels stuff, holds onto stuff, and sometimes spirals into “why am I crying over a dog food commercial?” territory.

Each essence carries a specific frequency, based on the flower it came from. That frequency gently nudges your own system back into balance — kind of like tuning forks for your emotions. They're not suppressing anything. They’re just helping you shift from stuck → spacious.

This isn’t just fluffy talk either. The idea of vibrational medicine isn’t new. From sound therapy to acupuncture, we’ve long known that energy carries information. Flower essences are just another way of working with that energy — one drop at a time.

And no, you don’t need to believe in them for them to work. But a little openness helps. Like most subtle therapies, the more you’re willing to meet them halfway, the more likely you’ll notice the shifts.

No wild side effects. No emotional hangovers. Just quiet, potent support in a bottle. (With bonus ✨vibes✨.)

So How Do You Actually Use These in a Session?

This is where flower essences get to shine — not as a standalone remedy, but as part of a bigger picture. In a kinesiology session, we don’t just hand you a bottle and say “good luck.” We use muscle monitoring to check if your body wants flower essence support… and exactly which one.

Here’s how it usually goes:

🪻 We start with a goal or intention for the session — something your body and subconscious can anchor into.
🪻 As we explore the root of your stress or challenge, your body might indicate that it wants to bring in a flower essence.
🪻 Using muscle monitoring, I’ll find the priority essence (yep, out of 70+). Each essence has an emotional resonance — like supporting clear boundaries, releasing resentment, calming nightmares, boosting motivation… all sorts of goodies.
🪻 I’ll read the meaning aloud, and we’ll check in: does your body want to highlight a particular part of the description? Does it resonate with your current experience?

Then we ask what your body wants us to do with the essence. It might ask to:

  • Have the essence bottle placed on your body

  • Look at a photo of the flower (yep, really — and it’s weirdly effective)

  • Take a few drops under the tongue

  • Add it to some water to sip through the session

  • Or occasionally… nothing! Sometimes just identifying the essence is enough for a shift

If you’re not comfy with drops (since they’re preserved in alcohol), that’s totally okay — we’ll work with your body to find another method. The whole point is collaboration, not forcing.

The essence helps support integration — emotionally, energetically, and sometimes even spiritually. It’s like giving your body a little helper to carry the shift forward after the session ends. 💫

Why I Use Flower Essences in My Work (and Why I Love Them So Much)

Flower essences are one of my absolute favourite tools to use in clinic — not just because they’re gentle, but because they get in deep without needing to be loud about it.

Sometimes, clients don’t even realise the emotional weight they’ve been carrying until their body chooses a flower essence that reads like a personal diary entry. It’s not about me deciding what they need — it’s about their own innate wisdom guiding the process.

That’s why I love them.

They meet you where you’re at. They don’t override your system. They don’t bulldoze your feelings. They just quietly help your body, heart, and nervous system untangle what’s been knotted up — often in ways that words alone can’t reach.

Plus… they bring a little magic into the room. A sense of intention, curiosity, and play. Which is very on brand for me 😏

Whether it’s a solo essence, a custom blend, or a bottle that sits on your bedside table like a tiny emotional support bestie, these flowers have stories to tell — and healing to offer.
