What Actually Happens in a Kinesiology Session? (Step-by-Step Breakdown)

So, you’re curious about what actually happens in a kinesiology session? Maybe you’ve booked in and want to know what to expect, or maybe you’re just kinesiology-curious. Either way — you’re in the right place.

Here’s a clear, step-by-step breakdown of what a typical session with me looks like, from the moment you walk in to the moment you float back out.

Step 1: We Chat (AKA the Consultation)

Every session — whether it’s your first or your fiftieth — starts with a chat. This is where we check in and unpack what’s going on.

  • In your initial session, we’ll go through the client form you filled out before your appointment. I’ll have already looked over it, but we’ll go through it together in case anything needs clarification (think: past surgeries, medications, emotional stress, physical pain, or anything else you’ve listed).

  • In follow-up sessions, we’ll focus more on what’s been happening lately — sticky spots, emotional wobbles, physical stuff that’s come up — and build from there.

This part gives us direction. It’s also a beautiful chance for you to feel seen and heard before we even begin the hands-on work.

Step 2: Comfort Check

Once our chat is done, I’ll check if you have any questions, need the loo, or would like a glass of water. Then you’ll hop up onto the massage table — fully clothed, lying face up — and I’ll get you comfy with a pillow, a bolster, a blanket, and some relaxing music in the background (don’t worry, I can tweak the playlist if you’ve got a preference🎵).

We’ll both take a few deep breaths to ground and settle. I’ll gently remind you: this is your balance. You can ask questions at any time, pause if you’re uncomfortable, let me know if you’re too warm or cold. You’re the boss.

And of course — I always ask “permission to work with your body” before we begin.

Step 3: Muscle Monitoring + Pre-Checks

Once permission is given, I’ll start muscle monitoring. This is how I communicate with your body — using gentle pressure on your arm muscles (usually the brachioradialis, sometimes the anterior deltoid if needed).

We begin by checking how your muscles are responding “in the clear” — meaning, without any active stress. Then I run through pre-checks to make sure the body’s communication system is online and accurate.

Pre-checks include:

  • Brain “switching” (left-right, front-back, and top bottom brain balance)

  • Central and governing meridians

  • Hydration (yes, stress can show up here!)

  • Ionisation (using breathwork to balance left/right nasal flow)

I like to think of this like a pilot doing a cockpit check before takeoff — making sure all the systems are working before we dive in.

Step 4: Willingness Statements

Next, we check willingness statements — short phrases to gauge how your subconscious is reacting. Not your logical brain, but the deeper part of you that might be holding hidden stress. If there’s a wobble, we clear it. These statements prep your body and energy for the deeper work to come.

Step 5: The Issue List

Based on our earlier chat, I’ll create a short list of 3–10 key issues that seem to be “up.” I’ll read them out to you, and you can let me know if anything’s missing. We use muscle monitoring to check for a stress response on each one, then identify the priority issue to work on first.

This is where the body starts leading the way.

Step 6: Activation + Goal Setting

We either:

  • Activate the issue (bring it clearly into the body’s awareness) first,

  • Or set a goal (a future-focused, solution-based intention that might feel a little stretchy right now — and that’s OK!)

Sometimes the goal will show stress, because it doesn’t yet match where the body’s at. That’s what we’re here to shift.

Throughout, I’m “saving” all this info into your body (and mine). Think of it like clicking save on a computer while we uncover a story — we don’t want to lose anything important.

Step 7: Set Up — The Fun Bit

Once the issue and goal are clear, the set up begins. This is the part where we ask your body what it needs in order to shift.

It might guide us toward:

  • An oracle card or flower essence

  • A structural or neurological pattern

  • A specific emotion with a backstory

  • An organ or gland that may need some TLC

  • Karmic or energetic themes

This is where the magic and logic dance together. I keep you in the loop the whole time, because you are the expert in your life. Something that feels random to me might land like an AHA moment for you.

Step 8: Correction

Once the set up is complete, we correct the stress. This could be anything from:

  • Cranial work (my favourite)

  • Energetic clearing

  • Tuning forks

  • Guided meditation

  • Flower essences or acupressure holds

I’ll check if the body needs more of the same or something new — and once everything is balanced, we’re done.

Step 9: Home Practice (Optional)

Sometimes, your body will suggest something for you to continue with at home. This could be:

  • Do 10 minutes of gentle movement (like stretching, walking, or yoga) to integrate body shifts.

  • Write a forgiveness letter (you don’t have to send it) to clear stuck emotional energy.

  • Spend 10 minutes barefoot on the grass (no phone, just you + the Earth)

  • Drink an extra glass of water daily for the next 3 days to support detoxification and energy flow.

  • Practice gratitude journaling — write down 3 specific things you're grateful for each day.

  • Declutter one small space in your home — a drawer, a corner, a shelf

  • Speak out loud a new affirmation or truth you uncovered in your session

  • Limit screen time before bed for the next 3 nights to improve melatonin production and sleep quality.

It’s often surprisingly simple — and directly tied to what we worked through in your session.

Step 10: Wrap-Up + Integration

I’ll help you sit up gently, offer another glass of water, and we’ll chat through any questions or takeaways. And that’s your session — complete ✨

You’ll leave feeling clearer, lighter, and more connected to yourself — body, mind, and spirit.

If your body’s whispering “yes please” after reading this, I’d love to support you in your own session.
